The ONE Thing Stopping You From Reaching Your Goals

What’s the ONE thing stopping your from reaching your health goals?

With the new year just 6 weeks away, and those New Years Resolutions flowing like water.

Tell me- How did you go with last years resolutions? Do you even remember what they where? How long did you stick with the grand plan? One week? three weeks?

Don’t be hard on yourself, you are not alone, the fact is only about 8% of those New Years Goals get beyond the 3 month mark.

How do you move beyond the 8%?

This is the topic of the Wellness Wednesday Live at Five, Live broadcast over on facebook, if you haven’t already hit “Like’ over there you may like to do that now, so as not to miss the updates.

Back to your goals. You may be familiar with S.M.A.R.T Goals

S Specific

M Measurable

A Achievable

R Realistic

T Timely

While this is really important, today I want to dig a little deeper with you.

The starting point is we want to make your goal really specific to you. For example if it’s a weight loss goal (I will use that example here as I know many of you have that one – but the same methodology can be applied to all goals health or otherwise).

Why do you want to lose the weight? Or can we rephrase that to be a particular dress or pants size?

You will need to dig into yourself on this one and ask if it is driven by internal or external forces. By that I mean; Are you wanting to be slim like xyz (read friend, sister-in-law, the other mothers, loved ones putting pressure on you?)

Or

Is it an internally driven (this my friend is where it needs to come from); because you will feel sexy, love what you see in the mirror (rather than self loathing), have more energy, be a healthier version of you?

If currently it’s external, try rephrasing it to find the internal driver.

We are looking for the feelings, your passions, your joy. Imagine what that will be like. How does it look, what will people say? What types of clothes will you be wearing, what ones are you going to ditch?

The next important point is choose one thing!

You must have a priority and it can only be one thing. In the area of health the one thing may well be to fit back into a size 10 or 12 pants for example. That is the priority and all actions will be based on that priority, all choices will be clearly focused on that one thing.

There for, the food you choose will be focused on that one thing. The movements you choose will be focused on that one thing. The cloths -window shopping will be focused on that one thing.

Now – the thing is you are going to need new cloths, am I right?

Here’s a Bonus tip from my frugal times:

Every time you are tempted to buy something that will take you further from your goal (eg: cake, sugary drinks, alcohol, milky coffees ..you get the idea, that go to thing you do) take that money you would have spent and pop it into a special jar…Your new wardrobe jar.

Double bonus right there! You get to be a size 12 and have the $$ to go shopping, and who doesn’t like shopping when you look and feel hot? right!

Self Sabotage

Yep, you heard, it happens, to all of us, but not you…Sure it happens to all so let’s not kid ourselves.

There will be all kinds of reason why, these reason will be external, it’s the work colleagues, the kids, the shake taste funny, I don’t like the liquid gold…you know the ones. That my friend is your old friend self sabotage jumping in to keep you in your comfort zone. Which is the powerful indicator that you need to grow and move beyond those old stories.

How do you do that you ask?

Always stay in gratitude, how can you rephrase those stories to find something within them to be grateful for, and focus on that. It’s when you stop being grateful and looking for things to be grateful for that the self sabotage is making it’s presence felt.

To wrap this up.

  • Step 1: Have your S.M.A.R.T
  • Step 2: Find your internal driver, your emotional reason why, that you can feel, taste, see, and smell
  • Step 3: Stay in gratitude
  • Bonus: start you frugal reward jar.

Bonus #2 The next most important thing is peer support, statically you are much more likely to stick to your goals when things get tough (and they will) if you have peer support a coach and mentors. Which is why we have set up a private facebook support page for people just like you who are ready to step into their new way of being and discover how good that can be.

Please contact me if you would like to join our free private support page and I will add you.
